This is a sponsored post by Ace Hardware. Read on for our backyard rescue. All reviews and opinions expressed in this post are based on my personal view.

I hate to admit it, but as of last weekend, our yard was looking pretty terrible. We desperately needed to do something. And this year was supposed to be the year that we got our yard back to being green and healthy. And our planters filled with plants and starting a small garden.

But here we were already at the beginning of May and we were having all the problems. From grubs to dead patches to foxtails (we even tried to burn these) and more. So we headed to Ace Hardware online and got started looking at what we needed.

We ultimately decided to go with the Scott’s 4 Step Program because it covered everything we were having problems with and would hopefully set our yard up for a better year next year. The Scott’s program is so easy to use. It literally tells you on the front of the package what its for and when to apply it to your yard. No guessing.

The best part about going with Ace Hardware? We have an amazing local store with the most helpful staff! We were able to go into the store and pick things out or use their curbside pickup. or even delivery. Learn more here. Either way, they helped us load everything directly into the truck. Every time I post about Ace, y’all always share amazing stories about how helpful your local Ace is. And I couldn’t agree more.

Back to the yard. Since we were a little late getting started, we ended up applying Scott’s Step 1 and Step 2 closely together. But ideally, you want to apply Step 1 Crabgrass Preventer and Lawn Food in early Spring. And Scott’s Step 2 Weed Control plus Lawn food in late Spring.

And being that our yard was kind of a hot mess, for good measure we also applied Scott’s GrubEx and Scott’s Weed and Feed. And we reseeded a few areas that have the most “wear and tear” right around our back patio. I am telling you, we needed all the help we could get.

I will share some great photos and videos to my Instagram stories and save them to my highlights. You can check them out here! Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing more about our process to my social channels. Because our work is not done yet.

We will be continue with the Scott’s 4 Step Program throughout the rest of the summer. Applying Scott’s Step 3 Lawn Food in the middle of the Summer and Scott’s Step 4 Lawn Food in early Fall.

I am also adding some potted plants around my back porch. And I am converting my raised planter into a small garden. I hoping to grow some kitchen herbs and some great peppers. I don’t think I have planted anything (or kept it alive) since before the girls were born. So this is going to be an adventure!

And lastly, we are getting chickens! We are working on putting together the chicken coop and getting everything ready before picking them up. I have never had chickens before. So this will be all new to me. But the girls are excited the chore of collecting the eggs. We will see how many eggs actually make it into the house.

Udderly gardening,
