MY ADVICE FOR STARTING A SMALL BUSINESS

“I am so glad I took those calculus classes in high school and college because they are coming in so handy when starting my small business.” Said No one ever.

Being an entrepreneur or small business owner is more common now than ever. Then, why is starting a small business so hard?! Why don’t we learn to file taxes in high school?! Why don’t we teach our next generation practical tools for success in everyday life?!

But thankfully, I learned some along the way and even got great advice from my followers. My top suggestions are below…

1️⃣ Hire a great CPA. A CPA will get you on the right path for setting up your business for taxes and potential deduction.
2️⃣ Hire a great bookkeeper. Having a bookkeeper is a great way to make sure your books are always in check and organized.
3️⃣ Learn for yourself by taking a community college class or read some good books on business/accounting. A quick Google search will show you hundreds of courses and resources for setting up your business books.
4️⃣ Get advice: start with your state/local small business organizations. You might be surprised at the amount of entrepreneurship and small business groups out there. These groups will help you network with other business owners and get advice on all the questions that will come up.
5️⃣ Look into small business loans and grants that are out there. Another quick Google search might reveal government loans or private grants that apply to you or your business.

If there is one thing that comes with starting a business it is an abundance of questions. Starting with five suggestions will create a strong foundation for the future of your business. I will never be done learning and will share more advice as I grow my business.
