United Dairy Women: Driving out childhood hungry in our community
Last month, United Dairy Women hosted our new event, Dairy Nights and Can-Am. This was our 14th year since starting United Dairy Women's Milk Mission... Providing 3 servings of dairy products a day for the entire year for two local children's homes in Portales, NM: NM Christian Children's Home and NM Baptist Children's Home. But this year, we had a new challenge, providing for an additional home in Clovis, NM: Hope Children's Home. This meant we needed to raise more money to prepare for the additional costs. We gladly accepted the challenge and went to work.
Dairy Nights and Can-Am Lights
After 14 years of doing our beloved annual event, Milk Lover's Ball, we decided to change it up. And oh man did we ever change it. It felt like it was time to refresh with something new and bring some new life to our organization. With our new event, Dairy Nights and Can-Am Lights, came new members, new volunteers, new sponsors, and new guests.Dairy Nights and Can-Am Lights was a more casual event held at The Mission at Traci's Greenhouse. And the main entertainment for the night was a raffle for a Can-Am Defender Max 800 from Zia Powersports. But instead of a classic raffle, we did a reverse raffle with the last ticket being the winning ticket. Throughout the night we raffled off other prizes including our Biggest Loser Prize (the first ticket pulled out of the raffle) which won a BBQ grill from Burns Do It Center.
Money Raised!
I am so excited to announce that thanks to all of our sponsors and guests, we raised more than $55,000! We have reached our goal again of providing for our original two children's homes and will be able to add the new home as well! It was such a fun night! We had BBQ plates catered by Coffee Bistro, centerpieces designed by Traci's Greenhouse, ice cream from Blue Bell and music by Mix 107.5.
United Dairy Women
Joining this organization of dairy women 8 years ago, I could have never guessed the impact it would have on my life. You join a charity hoping to do good for the community or to help people in need, but every year I am surprised by the joy, happiness, and support it brings to me (if not a little stress 😉). Every year I am humbled by the women who spend countless (thankless) hours putting on our events, by our sponsors who make it possible and by our guests who show up to support us. And this year was no different. To learn more about United Dairy Women and our Milk Mission, visit our website here.Udderly,New Mexico Milkmaid
